Genocide Facts

  • Throughout the course of 100 days from April 6 to July 16 1994, approximately 800,000 to 1 million Tutsis and some moderate Hutus were massacred in the Rwandan genocide.

Victims of the genocide lay in large grave sites throughout Rwanda

  • During this period, more than 6 men, women and children were murdered every minute of every hour of every day. This efficiency of killing was maintained for more than 3 months.
  • There are between 300,000 to 400,000 survivors of the genocide.
  • Between 250,000 and 500,000 women were raped during the 100 days of genocide. As a result of this rape, up to 20,000 children were born from these women.
  • More than 67% of women who were raped during the genocide were infected with HIV and AIDS. In many cases, this resulted from a systematic and planned use of rape by HIV+ men as a weapon of genocide.
  • There are 10 times as many widows than widowers – almost 50,000 widows of the genocide.
  • Nearly 100,000 survivors are aged between 14 and 21, of which 60,000 are categorised as very vulnerable.
  • 75,000 of survivors were orphaned as a result of the genocide.

  • Due to poverty, over half the children  who survived stopped their schooling.
  • 40,000 survivors are still without shelter, many whose homes were destroyed in the genocide.
  • 7 in 10 survivors earn a monthly income of less than 5000 Rwandan Francs (Equivalent to 8 American Dollars)

  1. May the souls of all those who perished rest eternally. But many are still happening on the black man’s continent if they don’t change from their dictatorial policies.

  2. Thank you for sharing this. Human inhumanity, this genocide of the Tutsi’s, the elimination of the Jewish in Germany, enslavement and prejudice of Africans or African descent in all parts of the world. These are all prime examples of why man remains to be the most treacherous animal on earth.

  4. People you are failing to see the bigger picture. What difference is there between south Africa compared to Zimbabwe ? still the British imperialism is at sti-lth as to how they manipulate the politics thereof. Why is it that the internal industrial processing of goods is mainly from the British and the American companies in South Africa yet serving the local market, be it Pharmaceuticals, industrial chemicals, food processing, Farming, and even construction. Think about it this way should all these companies close all doors behind what will happen to the local population. once again ladies and gentlemen Africa is faced with a terrible war and our people are denied the land for their very existence.

All i am saying is the same man behind the curtains in Britain Serving the crown is manipulating the out comes in Africa yet you African do not even see it, and is even correct when a European counterpart violate the wrights of African and is seen to be very wrong when done by the like of Robert Gabriel Mugabe.

  7. Such a tragedy. It’s been almost 23 years since this senseless slaughter of beautiful souls but the world hasn’t forgotten. I live half the globe away and I am curious as to the conditions in Rwanda today. Does this type of conflict still exist between Hutu and Tutsi?
